A death investigation is underway in Brea after a body was found inside a charred truck near a roadway early Thursday.The vehicle fire was reported around 5:40 a.m. at East Carbon Canyon Road and North Olinda Drive, according to Brea police. Arriving officers found the vehicle in trees and brush next to the road and engulfed in flames. The fire was eventually extinguished and a body was discovered inside, police said. Detectives were trying to determine how the fire began, the person's identity as well as the cause and manner of death. Detectives were at the scene for hours processing the area and looking for evidence that may have been scattered as the fire was being put out.“We look for anything that dropped out of the vehicle, any kind of potential evidence to help identify the person,” Lt. An explosion at a condominium complex injured five people, one critically, on Wednesday in the California mountain community of Mammoth Lakes, authorities said.The blast occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m. at Val d’Isere Condominiums in the Sierra Nevada. Authorities who arrived on the scene found a building collapsed next to the pool area, the Mammoth Lakes Police Department reported.They found two men who worked at the complex, including one who had to be freed from snow and debris, police said. The Santa Ana Police Department is investigating the theft of an African Gray parrot that was stolen from a front porch on Sunday, March 12.The theft occurred around 1 p.m. Doorbell camera footage obtained by KTLA shows the suspect walking directly up to the front porch of the home, grabbing the large metal cage with the bird inside, and then running away as the parrot squawks in distress.The suspect is described as a "heavy-set" Hispanic male, possibly in his forties, who was wearing a charcoal gray hoodie, gray gloves and light gray sweatpants. A San Bernardino County couple was arrested Wednesday and accused of intentionally causing car crashes that were posted on a YouTube channel.The suspects were identified as Christopher Phelps, 40, and his wife, Kimberly Phelps, 40, both from Yucaipa, according to the California Department of Insurance.The couple is accused of causing car collisions in an attempt to collect fraudulent insurance payouts, authorities said. A YouTube channel under the name “BLU3 GHO57" allegedly contained dashcam videos of crashes and road rage incidents connected to Christopher, authorities said. ANTIOCH — The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office has filed a murder charge against a 37-year-old man who allegedly stabbed his pregnant wife and two kids, leading to the death of the woman’s unborn baby.The man, identified by authorities as Bartley Hall, was in Martinez county jail after his arrest last Saturday night in Cordelia, following a 30-mile pursuit into Solano County by law enforcement authorities.The victims, an 11-year-old girl, 14-year-old boy and 35-year-old woman, were taken to a hospital. HAYWARD, Calif. (KRON) -- A Home Depot employee at the Hayward location was arrested for stealing from the store, California Highway Patrol said on Thursday. CHP executed a search warrant at the suspect's home and found about 600 stolen items and nearly $90,000 of cash. The Home Depot contacted the CHP's Golden Gate Division's Organized Retail Crime Task Force on March 1 about the thefts committed by a store employee.
